I recently got into Instagram stories, because I am a late bloomer and skeptical of new technologies. I originally didn’t see the point in posting pictures that disappear after 24 hours, but then I realized… you can post all the garbage that you want, and then after a day, your friends no longer need to be plagued by it! And then you can post more garbage guilt-free! My Twitter followers are very relieved to be free of me.
There is a 30 day song challenge going around the various sites where you post a song a day based on that day’s theme. Grace Spelman, who is a music and comedy genius, created her own revised challenge because she found the original prompts to be uninspiring. I’ve been posting mine on Instagram and also made a Spotify playlist, because that is my primary love language.

Some highlights include:
A break-up song: Mitski - “A Burning Hill” (became very obsessed with it during my last break-up)
A song with a sample: Clazziquai Project - “After Love” (I do not know what it’s sampling!!! but I like it)
A song that makes me cry: Bedrich Smetana - “Moldau” (my favorite classical piece that has made me ugly cry in public venues twice)
A song I sing at karaoke: Shiina Ringo - “Gips” (it is slightly too hard for me but I try anyway. every. single. time.)
A cover: Overcoats - “When Am I Gonna Lose You” (the original by Local Natives is very dreamy and it suits Overcoats’s harmonies so well)
A song with a name in the title: Allie X feat. Mitski - “Susie Save Your Love” (a gay anthem featuring Mitski is the best thing to come out of 2020)
An opening track: Lucy Dacus - “Night Shift” (this is another really great break-up song, and I think it’s really powerful to start off an album with a song like this)
A song with great vocals: Abby Jeane - “Pleasures Pain” (I wish I could sing like her)
A song to listen to while staring out the window of a bus: Angel Olsen - “Lark” (this is my favorite song of 2019 and I have listened to it staring out of the window of an Uber many many times)
